🚨 Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has announced a referendum on October 19 that includes proposals to give Alberta more control over immigration, similar to Quebec’s model.

The questions include charging fees to temporary residents for health care and education, requiring 12 months of residency before accessing provincially funded programs, and limiting certain benefits to citizens, permanent residents, or those with an “Alberta approved” status.

The province says the surge in newcomers has strained health care and social services, while critics argue there is limited data on the actual cost impact.
