IRCC Pauses New PGP Applications in 2026
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced a major update to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).
Starting January 1, 2026, IRCC will not accept any new PGP permanent residence applications until further instructions are issued.
In 2026, IRCC will process only PGP sponsorship applications received in 2025, in line with the March 13, 2025 Ministerial Instructions. A maximum of 10,000 applications will be processed. This cap may change only if new instructions are released; otherwise, no new PGP applications will be accepted in 2026.
Families unable to apply in 2025 should consider alternatives such as the Super Visa while awaiting future updates from IRCC.
